How to Add Line Breaks in LinkedIn Posts

Short paragraphs and blank lines make a post easier to read on a phone. Here is how to use them.

How line breaks work

Press Enter once to start a new line. Press it twice to leave a blank line between paragraphs. LinkedIn keeps both when you publish.

A simple layout

  • Line one: the hook, on its own.
  • A blank line.
  • Two or three short lines of story.
  • A blank line.
  • The point or lesson.
  • A blank line.
  • A question to start the conversation.

Common mistakes

  • One giant paragraph.
  • A blank line after every single sentence, which makes the post very long on mobile.
  • Spaces at the start of a line to push text across. They are not reliable.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my spacing change after posting?

Extra spaces at the start or end of lines may be trimmed. Use line breaks, not spaces, for layout.
