Formatting Your LinkedIn About Section
Most visitors read only the first few lines of your About section. A clean layout helps them stay.
The first lines matter most
Only the start of the About section shows before "see more", so lead with who you help and how. Save your history for later.
A simple structure
- Line 1: what you do and for whom.
- Short paragraph: what you are known for.
- A few bullet points: skills or results.
- A closing line: how to contact you.
Using formatting
- Use bullets for skills or results.
- Use bold for at most a few labels.
- Leave blank lines between parts.
- Keep your main keywords in normal text so people can find you.
Length
The About section holds up to 2,600 characters. You rarely need all of it. A clear 800 to 1,500 characters is plenty for most people.
Frequently asked questions
