How to Bold Text on LinkedIn

The LinkedIn post box has no bold button. Here is how people get bold text into posts, comments and profiles, and how to use it well.

0 / 3,000 characters

Select text, then pick a style. Nothing is selected? The word at your cursor is styled.

Good to know
  • Styled text is made of special characters. It pastes into LinkedIn as it looks here, but it is not searchable and some screen readers read it badly. Use it for emphasis, not whole posts.
  • LinkedIn sometimes removes empty lines when you paste. “Keep blank lines” puts one invisible character on each empty line so your spacing survives. Turn it off if you would rather copy the text exactly as typed.
  • A web address in your post shows a link card in the preview, as LinkedIn does. LekhKit cannot load other sites, so it shows the domain; LinkedIn fills in the real title and picture.
  • Attachments and mentions are preview only. Copying carries text, so add media and tag people inside LinkedIn.
  • The counter counts each styled letter as 2 characters to stay on the safe side. LinkedIn’s own count may differ.

The quick way

  1. Open LekhKit, or use the box above.
  2. Type your words and select the part you want in bold.
  3. Copy the result.
  4. Paste it into LinkedIn and post.

What can go wrong

Bold letters from a generator are special characters. Some screen readers announce them awkwardly and search may not match them to plain words. A little goes a long way: bold the few words that matter and keep the rest plain.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a shortcut like Ctrl+B on LinkedIn?

Not in the standard post editor. Ctrl+B does nothing there, which is why a formatter is needed.

Will my followers see the bold?

Yes, on any current device. It travels with the text because it is made of normal characters.
